Community Sessions

Live session with the people shaping the world’s most powerful stories. Participate in conversations about craft, ethics, access, and the real decisions behind meaningful stories.

What is a Community Session?

Twice a month we arrange online gatherings with journalists, filmmakers and other storytellers.

On the 15th each month we host a "Master Talk", with some of the world's most experienced storytellers, who share their craft and method.

On the 30th each month we host a "Storyteller Project", where you get a look behind the scenes of a project made by one of the storytellers from Duckling Community.

Sessions includes talks, behind-the-scenes insight into real projects, open Q&A with participants.

You can join online, and for selected sessions we also organize communal viewing at physical locations.

Upcoming Master Talk

From Photos to Story: Building Narratives That Land - with Bjarke Calvin, CEO and founder of Duckling

A collection of images is not a story. A project pitch is not a story. A story needs an arc, a character who wants something, and a reason for the audience to care.In this session, we dig into what actually makes a narrative work — from the Hero's Journey to basic plot structures and character archetypes — and how to apply these tools to your photos, visuals, and audio.

Whether you're building a documentary, a photo essay, or a pitch deck, the same principles apply: give your material a spine, and it becomes unforgettable.

Date and time: June 15th, 6 pm CET/11 am EST.

Upcoming Storyteller Project

Mí Relig(10)n by Duckling Seed Grantee Camila Faraci

The project Mí Relig(10)n is an exploration of the cultural role that football plays in Argentina.

In a country where football often transcends sport, Camila Faraci documents how the game becomes a shared language through which people express identity and everyday life.

She will take us through the development of the project; from its initial concept and research phase to the ways the idea shaped her approach in the field. We'll also explore her personal connection to the subject, and how her own experiences informed the work.

Date and time: June 30rd, 6 pm CET/11 am EST.
