Biography
My name is Nissim Gasteli, a French-Tunisian freelance journalist and photographer based between Beirut and Damascus. After growing up in France and spending the past six years in Tunis covering news from North Africa and migration in the Mediterranean, I moved to the Middle East. Thanks to my dual cultural background, I have always seen myself as someone capable of understanding both European and Arab societies. My work, therefore, aims to document realities that go far beyond stereotypes, building a bridge between two worlds—as close as they are distant—that sometimes struggle to understand one another in an era of polarized opinions, hysterical debates, and post-truth.
Project describtion
This project follows the Litani River through southern Lebanon, exploring the lives of communities living in one of the country's most neglected regions. Since the beginning of March, most of them have been forcibly displaced by Israeli attacks on Lebanon.
Through everyday life, mourning, and resistance, it examines the shared experience of political marginalization, abandonment during periods of conflict, and distance from Lebanon's central government.
